Measure of success: Measurand wins export award

Measurand, manufacturer and designer of ShapeArray, won Exporter of the Year—over $5 million at the Export Awards in Saint John, New Brunswick, on June 13.

“Three years ago, I decided I wasn’t having enough fun at work, so I took the chance to join this small company in Hanwell called Measurand,” said Jeff Barrett, Measurand’s president during his acceptance remarks. “I don’t think I could have found a better group of men and women to share my work days with. Whether I’m at the airport with our sales and marketing team at midnight waiting for a flight back to Fredericton or on a Sunday eating lunch with our manufacturing team trying to get a rush order out, everybody is always smiling. I think half the time they are smiling because they are laughing at me, but hey I’ll take it.”

An expert panel of business leaders and academics select the awards from a pool of nominees located in the province of New Brunswick. The event is hosted by Opportunities NB in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

Barrett thanked Opportunities NB, ACOA, and the Trade Commissioner Service for their support.

“These people walk into our office filled with energy and passion and really strive to help us and every small company in this room on a daily basis. We wouldn’t be here without them, so thank you,” he said.

The Innovative Exporter of the Year award went to Atlantic Industries LtdLizotte Machine Vision took the Exporter of the Year—Sales Under $5-million award. InteliSys Aviation Systems won the Global Diversification Award, which is their second year winning an award. OneZero won the Yves Maillet Emerging Exporter Award, named after the vice president of business growth at Opportunities NB who passed away in an accident this year.
