Petrokimia Gresik
SECTOR: Urban Construction & Geohazard
Gresik, Indonesia
Petrokimia Gresik, a fertilizer company, located in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia planned to conduct construction work near an elevated carbon steel pipeline. Engineers were concerned that dredging on the southern part and reclamation on the northern part of the pipeline’s trestle could cause differential settlement to potentially damage the elevated pipeline structure. As a result, the pipeline, crucial for the site’s cooling system, needed a real-time monitoring solution.
HMA Geotechnical developed a real time and early-warning alert system that would send notification if there was an indication of imminent and catastrophic ground movement that could damage the pipeline. In total, six SAAVs were installed adjacent to the pipeline trestle with a 5 m offset from the trestle column. These SAAVs were installed vertically in 30 m boreholes. The submerged SAAVs measured the lateral displacement of the subsoil in real-time.
SAAV monitoring data were continuously collected with a Campbell Scientific CR1000X datalogger stored in a Data Acquisition System (DAS). With cellular modems equipped in the DAS, the lateral displacement data from the SAAV data was sent out to a secure server, then to Vista Data Vision‘s (VDV) real-time visualization software platform. VDV’s Real Time Display (RTD) was used to give stakeholders a clear overview of all data including displacement graphs and historical overview. The telemetry network allowed two-way communication, so that data could be gathered remotely and the data loggers and sensors in the field could be reprogrammed or reconfigured from the office.
